Surprise Arts invites artists or artist teams to submit qualifications for community-engaged art projects as part of upcoming programming across the city. We are seeking artists who create work with the community, not just for it. We are interested in projects that invite participation, spark curiosity, and build a sense of belonging. 

Qualifications:

We’re looking for artists who:

• Have experience working with communities or public audiences, including experience teaching or guiding workshops of any kind
• Create work that is accessible and inclusive
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively

We appreciate the time you put into your submission. Please review the expectations and eligibility below before submitting:

• This is a qualifications-based application open to Arizona-based Artists only. 
• Do not submit proposals. Only submit work samples of completed works.
• Submissions must be clear and complete. incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 
• Work samples should reflect your strongest, most relevant community-engaged projects. Project detail (title, location, date, materials, scale and client or commissioning agency) should be included for each work sample.
•  AI-generated images are not permitted in submitted work samples or final artwork.  
•  Selected artists will be added to a roster for future opportunities. Placement on the roster does not guarantee a commission or selection to submit a paid proposal but does guarantee consideration.
